Jailed for forgery and fraud

Published reports state that Graham Carden, a former New Zealand Rugby League chairman, was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to six representative charges of forgery and fraud.

The reporting says two bogus incorporated societies were used to obtain grants from charitable trusts funded by gaming-machine proceeds, and that names of sporting officials were used without their knowledge in support of funding applications.

The reported reparation sought was NZ$125,210, with NZ$42,000 ordered by the sentencing judge.
